Josh Coates – CEO, Instructure, Inc.
Josh Coates began his career in distributed systems research at the University of California, Berkeley and Microsoft’s Bay Area Research Center. Josh specialized in high performance and parallel disk and network I/O. In 1998 Josh graduated with a degree in Computer Science and began working at Inktomi Corporation developing network caching software.
In 2009 Josh left EMC/Mozy/Decho and took some time off. In 2010 he joined Instructure as the CEO and also continues to volunteer as an adjunct instructor in the Computer Science Department at Brigham Young University.
Denise Dumas – VP of Engineering, Red Hat
Denise Dumas is the VP of Engineering for the Red Hat Platform organization. With an extensive background in operating systems, she’s filled a wide variety of software development and management roles across 3 major operating systems over more than 25 years. Denise‘s teams deliver the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system and other products such as RHEL Atomic, Realtime RHEL, and Software Collections. Everyone in her organization has an opportunity to be an upstream contributor, and many are also major Fedora contributors.
Adi Kamdar – EFF Activist
Adi Kamdar is an activist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation specializing in patent, free speech, intermediary liability, and consumer privacy issues. He also coordinates EFF’s open access advocacy and helps with student activism. He studied History of Science at Yale University, where he was chapter president and a member of the board of directors of Students for Free Culture. Previously, he interned at EFF, at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and with the Open Video Alliance. In his free time, he enjoys improv, music, things that are delicious, and being outdoors.
Megan Wilhite DevOps – Verisk Health, Group Leader – SLCLinux
Megan Wilhite is currently a Dev Ops Engineer at Verisk Health focusing on automating configuration and deployment methods for Linux applications. Megan graduated in 2013 from Western Governors University with a Masters of Information Security and entered the workforce as a Systems Engineer specializing in managing Linux hosts. She is a co-founder of the SLC Linux User Group and is involved with many other local communities including DC801, 801Labs, VMUG, and Utah SAINT. She has both attended and volunteered for multiple technology conferences including BlackHat, SaintCon, OpenWest and the VMUG User Conference. In her spare time she enjoys playing video games, watching anime, rock climbing and playing soccer.
Kevin Howard – Verisk Health, Group Leader – SLCLinux
Kevin Howard is a Manager of Security Services at Verisk Analytics (VRSK) leading a team of Security Engineers focused on design and implementation of security solutions for a NASDAQ 100 company. He is heavily involved in the user group community and sits on the Board of Directors for UtahSec, UtahSaint, and the 801 Labs Hackerspace. Kevin is also co-founder of SLC Linux and a core member of DC801. He frequents and volunteers at many security conferences including BlackHat, Defcon, and SAINTCON. When he’s not working or running conferences, he enjoys music, electronics, and travelling with his wife.
